Sometimes the only way you can get yourself unstuck in your business (or really, anywhere in your life) is by asking yourself powerful and provocative coaching questions. My friend, master coach Andrea J. Lee, is amazing at this.
In fact, a few years ago, I was at her event, when she asked what I thought was a masterful series of coaching questions.
But, first, if you don’t know who Andrea is, you really ought to because I think she’s one of the most talented business coaches in the industry today. She’s brilliant at getting to the heart of what’s really happening in your business.
So, here are the coaching questions she asked that day.
She started by having all of us put down how much we were making (a month or a year) and then putting a zero after it.
Now, I confess, sitting there in the audience, I was smugly thinking to myself. “Oh I know where she’s going with this” wrongly assuming she was heading toward some sort of financial stretching exercise, where you look at that big number and start to work through all the fears that are coming up.
(Side note–if you haven’t done that type of exercise before, I do recommend it as it’s a good way to get a handle on the fears that are stopping you from making more money.)
But, no, that wasn’t where Andrea was going.
So, as an example, let’s say we’re making $100,000 a year, and we put a zero after it so we’re making $1 million a year.
Now, look at that $1M number and ask yourself this:
If tomorrow you started making that much money, what would break in your business?
It’s a sobering question. But, it’s important one.
Too often, especially in the personal development/transformational industry, we get all caught up in Law of Attraction and manifesting a huge 6 or 7 figure business.
But … what happens when we actually manifest it?
What breaks?
And, here’s the reality: SOMETHING is going to break. It just is.
And, that’s not a bad thing.
The Japanese have a practice of fixing broken pottery with gold, so the repaired pot is actually more valuable than before it was broken.
BUT, and this is important, if you are unconsciously worried about something breaking, you may be holding yourself back and not even realizing it.
That’s why this question is so valuable, because it will help you uncover if there’s something about your current business model that’s keeping you from growing your business to as big as you desire.
Not only that, but there’s something to be said for building the foundation for the business you want NOW versus waiting until something … ahem … breaks. It’s like if you’re planning to have a big family and you were building your dream house, you wouldn’t build a 2-bedroom home. You’d build it to support the family you want.
Your business is the same way.
And, if you show the Universe you’re ready to 10x your business, the Universe will be that much more likely to give it to you.
